Lots of problems by Noname from on 2010-07-21 This is my second attempt at a Lava Lamp on Amazon. It arrived with cloudy liquid right out of the box. The liquid is murky even after turning it on and off a few times. It's not easy to see the blobs move up and down. The lamp itself is large and starts up quickly compared to my son's smaller 14 inch Lava Lamp. At first, it worked. After it was on for five hours, the bulb got too hot and all the wax bubbled to the top and wouldn't come down until I turned it off. It was boiling. I may have to return this Lava Lamp. ______________ UPDATE: I didn't return this lava lamp. My daughter was too attached to it. She turned it on occasionally after the near disaster. I just looked at it today and noticed how clear it is. The cloudiness has gone away. That took a whole month, but we didn't do anything special to clear it up. That is worth at least a bump up in star rating. I will now give it two stars, since it works and isn't cloudy. I still don't leave it on unattended for fear it will boil like it did that one time. Groovy Lava Lamp!!! by MSU Dave Dawg from on 2010-07-02 Bought this lamp for my kid on his birthday and he loves it. Takes a while (2-3 hours) to heat up fully but then you get TONS of lava going. Yellow-to-red color transition makes it one of the coolest lava lamps we have ever owned. Great value! Lamp is much bigger than I thought it would be but was only a few bucks more than we have paid for much smaller lamps. Don't let the bad reviews fool ya! Every lava lamp gets stuck once in a while. Just have to take it off the base after it gets good and hot and turn it (keep lamp upright!) gently for about 30 seconds to get the lava going again. Put it back on the base and you're back in business. I spent the next 3 years looking for a lamp that REALLY worked, and was excited to see that this product was offered at Amazon, who I pretty much trust explicitly-MY BAD!!!! The product worked for about 8 hours and then died, as other reviews on this site have testified. Left with 2 "lumps" of lava that just sit, static. I should have known better when I saw that this item is "Made in China", nuff said. The problem is that in order to save $$$$, the manufacturer produced heating coils that are way to small to do the job!!!! MADE IN CHINA!!!!! Do yourself a favor. Save some money. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

I was also looking for full spectrum lamps which are my favorite since the light mirrors natural light. I first bought the Norm@nde Full spectrum lamp thinking it was such a great deal for such a low price. The Norm@nde lamp was crap, after reading the reviews left on the product I thought they might have just got the defected ones and I might not be so unlucky. but the product was merely crap, the crane was loose and broken at the bottom where the crane joins the base. The material felt cheap and like it would snap with little force. So I sent it back to amazon for a refund and bought this lamp instead. BEST choice I've made. the on/off switch is touch sensitive and VERY responsive. the base is VERy solid and stable. the crane reaches far and the joins near the lamp could be turned to. So basically anywhere you put the lamp you can choose to illuminate any specific area. The light is really bright so it doesn't cause any eye strains after reading for 6+ hrs. basically if your looking for a full spectrum lamp and you don't want to pay the overly exaggerated prices that some companies place on their products, this is it. it has everything and its rock solid.
